Because Christ is In Every Book of the Bible
Interestingly, I missed this video (below) last week when Deacon Greg Kandra ran it over at his place. Maybe there is a reason for that. You see, earlier this week some friends of mine got into a discussion regarding books of the Bible.
They are married, Christian, and very intelligent people. But alas, they started cutting apart the Bible like they were their own individual Majesterium's. Or better yet, like they were from the New York Times Book Review or something. You know, what they liked they fawned over. And what they didn't? "Get thee behind me..." Here's an excerpt of the conversation,
Her: "I'm not looking forward to this week at work. Sigh. But like Friedrich Nietzsche said,'Whatever doesn't kill me, makes me stronger.'"
Me: "He said that, but in his case, what didn't kill him just made him an ass----. I prefer this from St. Paul instead: 'Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses.'"
Awkwardly quiet.
Her: "I'm not a big fan of 'St.' Paul. His attitude toward women generally sucked. I like Jesus's teachings much better."
Me: "Golly. You know, St. Paul wrote most of the New Testament."
Crickets chirping.
Him: "Mother Teresa was a true saint, in my humble opinion. But I'd venture to say that some of the Catholic Saints were probably child molesters." Grinning. "I'm a fan of Jesus, James, Amos, Isaiah, Mary, Mary Magdelene, Ruth, Ecclesiastes, and some of the other characters/ books in the Bible. I'm not a big fan of the "gospel" of John. And Revelation should never have been included in the New Testamant.
Me: Quizzical look on my face, "I'm just a grasshopper, unfit to remove pebbles from open hands. But I am still trying to grasp them." Shaking my head while smiling.
Um, if the Bible is the inspired word of God, then you have to take it all in. Whether you "like" everything or not. Conversations like this one make me glad I'm a Catholic. Especially after a friend from Australia posted the words to the flash mob video, shot earlier this month, that I mentioned at the beginning of this post. Have a look,
